This year marks 20 years since Guernsey became a Fairtrade Island, and Fairtrade Fortnight is giving us a few ways to get involved.
Running from 21 September to 4 October, this year’s campaign is all about fair pay for the people behind some of the everyday things we buy without giving them too much thought, including coffee, tea, chocolate and bananas.
And there’s plenty happening locally.

A special 20 Photos for 20 Years exhibition is running throughout Fairtrade Fortnight at Guille-Allès Library and Beau Sejour, looking back at some of the moments that have shaped Guernsey’s Fairtrade journey since it gained Fairtrade Island status in 2006.
On Saturday 3 October, from 12pm to 3pm, there’ll be a Fairtrade stall in Market Square, with products to buy, tastings and games. An easy one to drop into if you’re already in Town.
There’s also a Fairtrade film screening at Guille-Allès Library on Tuesday 6 October from 6.30pm, with Fairtrade refreshments.

Judy Moore, Chair of the Fairtrade Guernsey Steering Group, commented:
“This Fortnight is a powerful reminder of what grassroots action can achieve… Supporting the heart of our community is exactly how we ensure smallholder farmers globally can afford fair wages and combat the climate crisis. Our island's 20-year commitment proves that when a community stands together, our collective choices create a life-changing impact across the globe.”
